To maintain your ice skates, you should:
① After each skating session, wipe the blades clean with a soft cloth and store them in their blade sleeves to prevent moisture or damage.
② Avoid contact between the blades and acidic substances to prevent rusting.
③ Do not heat wet ice skates with fire; wipe them clean and allow them to air dry.
④ After winter, before storing your skates and blades, clean the blades and apply some butter; wipe the skates with a cloth dampened with detergent to remove stains, air dry them in the shade, apply a layer of leather-protecting shoe polish, and stuff the skates with paper balls to absorb moisture. For synthetic leather skates, ordinary detergent is sufficient for cleaning.
Whether roller skates or water skates are used for extended periods (or not), they should be maintained, cleaned, and stored properly.
Cleaning the surface of the skates:
1. For the plastic parts of the skates, wipe them with a damp cloth.
2. For removable inner sleeves, you can remove them directly for cleaning.
3. For semi-detachable or non-detachable shoes, remove the bearings and shoe rack before washing.
4. Clean the shoe covers inside and out with detergent and water to remove stains and sweat.
5. Air dry the cleaned shoe covers in a cool, ventilated place. Do not expose to direct sunlight. You can also spin-dry them in a washing machine first, then air dry.
6. Crumple up old newspapers and stuff them into the shoes, then tie the laces tightly. Make sure to pack them tightly to prevent compression and deformation, which would make them too tight to wear later.
7. Reassemble the disassembled parts, seal them in a plastic bag (preferably with some desiccant inside), and then store them.
Ice Skate Cleaning and Maintenance
1. Dry the ice skates immediately after each skating session.
2. Before storing, wipe off any remaining stains and rust.
3. Air dry in a cool, ventilated place. Do not expose to direct sunlight.
4. Apply petroleum jelly or machine oil to the blade.
5. Polish the leather surface with shoe polish. 6. After sheathing the knife, seal it in a plastic bag (preferably with some desiccant inside) before storing it.
Store it in a dry, well-ventilated place.
Avoid squeezing or crushing to prevent deformation and maintain its usability. During the rainy season, take it out frequently to check and air it out to prevent mold.
