Inline skates and quad skates differ in several aspects: On smooth indoor wooden floors, inline skates and quad skates are equally fast.
Inline skating provides a more comprehensive workout for various bodily functions and balance, as quad skates are much easier to balance and less prone to falls. Technically, skilled inline skaters are often also skilled in quad skates, but skilled quad skaters are not necessarily skilled in inline skates. In terms of venue adaptability, inline skates are more versatile and commonly found in certain professional venues; quad skates are primarily suitable for concrete surfaces and street skates. In large indoor skating rinks in Shanghai and Beijing, quad skates are generally not permitted due to concerns about protecting the wooden floors. Regarding gliding characteristics, inline skates are more prone to falls, but offer greater foot flexibility, allowing for more tricks; quad skates have a fixed foot position. In terms of wheel characteristics, inline skate wheels have smaller diameters and are generally harder than quad skate wheels, resulting in less tolerance to surface roughness and a less comfortable ride for street skating compared to quad skates.
