Inline skates mainly consist of four parts: the upper, the frame, the bearings, and the wheels. The principle of inline skating is that the larger the wheel diameter, the greater the grip; the wider the wheel, the stronger the traction; and the stiffer the wheel, the lower the drag.
Inline skate wheels have a smaller diameter and higher stiffness, making them less tolerant of different surfaces. For a comfortable street skating experience, specialized street skating wheels are needed. Inline skates are used on smooth indoor wooden floors. Some professional indoor skating rinks specify the use of inline skates because single-row skates can damage indoor wooden floors.
